Lake Cabin in oak, Bruges region
This two-part Lake Cabin designed by Bjorn Verlinde is constructed completely in raw oak, including the roof. Furnished with a high table and a low bench, one section resembles a beach cabin while a ‘gardener’s cave’ serves as a garden shed. Together, the elements exist in beautiful, timeless harmony with the wooded garden surroundings. For added visual interest, the wooden outbuildings are set at a 5° angle from each other and from the dock.
The Lake Cabin is conceived as a simple block shape with folding wooden walls that can fully close off the structure. Viewed from the restored farmhouse 250m away, this gives a more interesting view than a wooden construction with windows, which tend to look like black gaps from a distance. A small window is included in the side wall to allow natural light to enter.
In short, this is a unique spot to spend a lovely summer day with friends at the water’s edge.
